Welcome to Holy Trinity Church, one of York’s best hidden medieval treasures. Tucked quietly away behind the busy streets of Goodramgate, the church feels almost frozen in time. Parts of the building date back to the 12th century, and unlike many churches, much of its medieval character has survived remarkably unchanged through the centuries.
Inside, the church is known for its wooden box pews, uneven stone floors, candlelit atmosphere, and beautiful stained glass windows. The peaceful churchyard outside creates a striking contrast to the busy city streets nearby, making it easy to imagine what this corner of York might have felt like hundreds of years ago.
Holy Trinity has witnessed generations of York’s history, from medieval traders and craftsmen to Victorian worshippers and modern visitors exploring the city today. Hidden away among narrow passages and old stone walls, it remains one of the most atmospheric places in York.

Holy Trinity Church feels like a hidden corner of medieval York, tucked away from the busy streets nearby. Take a photo that captures the peaceful and timeless atmosphere of this spot. You could frame the old stone walls, ancient gravestones, wooden doorway, or ivy-covered churchyard to create a picture that feels mysterious, calm, or centuries old.
