Welcome to the Merchant Adventurers’ Hall, one of the finest surviving medieval guild halls in Britain. Built in the 1300s, the hall became the headquarters of the powerful Merchant Adventurers, a group of wealthy traders who helped shape York’s economy and influence for centuries. Merchants gathered here to discuss business, trade goods, and regulate commerce within the city.
The impressive timber-framed building was designed to reflect the importance and status of the guild. The Great Hall upstairs was used for meetings and feasts, while the lower level once provided space for charitable work and support for poorer members of society.
Today, the hall remains one of York’s most remarkable historic buildings, offering a glimpse into the lives of the merchants who helped medieval York become one of England’s most important trading cities.

This is a great period building to take some fun photos, inside and out!
