We're going to be honest. This is not the most exciting of locations on our Adventure Trail, at least not where the plaque is to find the clue, but in the 1790s, something unique came to Christchurch - the making of the Fusee watch chains, which became a big industry in the town until 1875. Girls and women were the main workers, and could either work in the factory or work at home, making this also known as a cottage industry. By 1875, clocks and watches were made differently, so the factories were closed.

You cannot see the original factories on this spot to photograph, but see what else you can find on the High Street to catch your attention. Tag us in your unique photos on social media!
We'd love to see the photos you take! Tag us on Instagram or Facebook @goadventuretrails and each month we pick our favourites to win a FREE Adventure Trail of your choice!
We'd also love to see a picture of you at this location too! But don't give the answers away! We want them to be a surprise for anyone else doing this Adventure Trail!
The original house and factory owned by Robert Cox are no longer standing. However, across the bypass is the site of the William Hart Fusee Factory, so if you want to visit that, it is a 5-10 minute walk away. Also, in the Local History section of Christchurch Library, you can find books about the Fusee Watchmaking Industry.
