Well isn't this a fun sight to see on your Christchurch adventure! The earliest reports of a ducking stool in Christchurch come from the mid-14th century. Some think they were used for witchcraft, but mainly they were used to punish "scolds" who were women who had been convicted of disruptive behaviours, getting into fights and hurling abuse. The stream is the same Mill Stream you have been adventuring along, and at this point it would have been a lot deeper, so the person sitting in the ducking stool would have been completely submerged in the water.

The signs around the Ducking Stool ask you not to climb on it, so we are following the same advice. Try to find some other inventive ways to photograph this unique piece of Christchurch history, along with
1. The Ducking Stool cafe
2. The blue cottage at the crossroads
3. The dog and butterfly on the wall
4. Millhams Street cottages
5. Millhams Meade Georgian house
