Welcome to Paulsplatz! This open square has been a gathering place for centuries, but it became especially important in 1848 when it stood at the centre of Germany’s first attempt at democracy. Just beside you is St Paul’s Church, where representatives met to discuss a constitution and the future of the nation. Today, the square is much calmer, but if you look around, you can still spot the mix of historic buildings and modern life that show how Frankfurt has grown and changed over time.
