CLUE 13

EISERNER STEG

This page has extra help and information about this clue location, as well as extra things you might want to do while you are here.

You can find the image hint for the clue at the bottom of this page.

Eiserner Steg has been rebuilt several times throughout its history, especially after being destroyed during World War II. Each reconstruction has kept its original function while adapting to the needs of a growing and changing city.

The bridge is known for its simple iron design, which was considered modern and practical when it was first built. Unlike older stone bridges, it was designed specifically for pedestrians, making it one of the earliest crossings in Frankfurt focused entirely on foot traffic.

If you pause in the middle of the bridge, you’ll get one of the best views in the city. On one side, you can see Frankfurt’s historic skyline, and on the other, its modern financial district, with glass towers rising above the river. This contrast is one of the defining features of Frankfurt today.

You may also notice a Greek inscription running along the side of the bridge. It translates to “Sailing over a wine-dark sea to men of a strange tongue,” a reference to Homer’s Odyssey, adding an unexpected literary detail to this busy crossing.
