Welcome to Place Mill! This place was used hundreds of years ago to grind corn and to full (aka clean and thicken) cloth. Be careful getting close to the water, but you should still be able to see how the Mill Stream's running water was used to power the water wheel. The water comes from the Mill Stream into the Mill Pond - the end of the River Avon, and flows onwards into a different river - the River Stour.

BE WATER AWARE AROUND THE MILL AND THE QUAY. ALSO SWANS MAY BITE!

When you are at the Place Mill, there are a lot of things you can do nearby. Here are just a few things:

  • Explore Christchurch Quay and the Bandstand

  • Make a wish in the Wishing Well

  • Get an ice cream or refreshments at the Old Mill Tea Rooms

  • Jump on or hire a river boat to Tuckton or Mudeford Beach
